The foundation recognized not only the needs of the community, but also an opportunity to create meaningful and lasting impact in the lives of its residents.

Nestled within the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality of the Eastern Region of Ghana is Fankyiniko, a vibrant farming community defined by resilience, warmth, and a strong communal spirit.

Like many rural communities, however, access to consistent healthcare and essential support remained a challenge, with many residents prioritizing daily survival over routine medical care.

Indeed, beneath its lively atmosphere lay a pressing need for outreach, education, and support.

It was through the connection of a dedicated member that the Hands of Gold Foundation (HOGF) first discovered Fankyiniko, and what began as a simple visit quickly became something more profound.

The foundation recognized not only the needs of the community, but also an opportunity to create meaningful and lasting impact in the lives of its residents.

Laying the Groundwork

Committed to building trust and collaboration, HOGF first engaged the community leadership, through series of meetings which allowed the foundation to better understand the people, their challenges, and the services most needed.

Moved by the foundation’s vision, the leadership warmly granted permission for a medical screening and donation drive scheduled for November 27, 2021.

Preparations began immediately, committees were formed, plans refined, and volunteers mobilized.

Recognizing that residents in farming communities often delayed seeking healthcare until emergencies arise, HOGF worked closely with medical professionals to design a screening program focused on critical but often overlooked “silent killers.”

At the same time, the foundation gathered essential supplies, paying particular attention to the needs of women and children.

In the days leading up to the outreach, volunteers made several trips to Fankyiniko, preparing the venue and spreading awareness through the Community Information Centre and local announcements.

By the eve of the event, every detail had been carefully finalized.

A Day of Service and Hope

On November 27, 2021, the community came alive with excitement and anticipation.

Driven by compassion and volunteer spirit, the HOGF team arrived to a warm reception from community leaders and residents alike. Local youth enthusiastically joined in setting up the grounds, while cameras rolled and drones captured the beauty of the occasion from above. By 10:00 AM, everything was in place.

The outreach began with an educational health session focused on major “silent killers,” including malaria, typhoid, hypertension, hepatitis B and C, breast cancer, and diabetes.

A total of 180 residents were screened for these conditions. Beyond the screenings, medical professionals provided personalized counseling and interactive question-and-answer sessions, ensuring residents left not only treated, but empowered with knowledge about their health.

The day ended with a celebration of generosity and community. Special donations were presented to the local leadership in appreciation of their hospitality and support.

Women and children also received care packages containing rice, milk, oil, canned mackerel, soap, mosquito coils, and other essentials to support their households.

A Lasting Impression

What began as a health outreach transformed into a joyful celebration of unity, compassion, and hope—a fitting curtain-raiser for the Christmas season.

Deeply touched by the gesture, community leaders expressed heartfelt gratitude, humorously echoing Oliver Twist with the words: “We ask for more.”

By 6:00 PM, as the foundation members departed, they left behind more than donated items and completed screenings.

They left with hearts full of joy, knowing they had delivered comfort, dignity, and lasting impact to the people of Fankyiniko.
