What began as a desperate social media appeal soon became a powerful story of compassion, hope and survival, a reminder of how humanity can triumph in moments of despair.
In August 2021, a member of the Hands of Gold Foundation (HOGF), Kwame, moved by his passion for humanitarian service, made an emotional appeal on social media on behalf of Ms Gloria Kafui Sabah, a young woman battling a severe medical condition affecting her leg.
At the time, Gloria’s condition was worsening rapidly, and she urgently needed medical support to undergo critical diagnostic procedures that would determine the next stage of her treatment.
Kwame’s appeal to the people of the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality was simple but heartfelt.
“Help in your own small way to save the life of our dear sister and God will reward you abundantly.”
The appeal quickly caught the attention of the Hands of Gold Foundation.
A few days later, members of the foundation reached out to Gloria to better understand her situation.
What they encountered was heartbreaking. Beneath her calm composure was a young woman in pain, overwhelmed by a life-threatening condition and struggling financially to access healthcare.
For the foundation, the decision to intervene was immediate.
Driven by its commitment to touching lives and restoring hope, HOGF stepped in to fully support Gloria’s medical journey, ensuring she received the diagnostic care she desperately needed.
Though there were setbacks and delays along the way, the foundation remained resolute.
After several attempts, Gloria successfully underwent an MRI scan, which revealed complications requiring urgent medical attention and further treatment.
For members of the foundation, the successful completion of the scan marked the beginning of hope.
“The team could not hold our joy for the success made. Thank you Hands of Gold Foundation and thank you everyone,” Kwame said.
A Battle Beyond Diagnosis
Just as one hurdle had been overcome, another emerged.
Following medical consultations and clinical observations, Gloria was informed that she would need surgery.
Once again, uncertainty and financial challenges threatened her chances of recovery.
But the Hands of Gold Foundation refused to let her fight alone.
In January 2022, after Gloria reached out to the foundation for further support, the leadership of HOGF swiftly approved another intervention to facilitate the surgery and related medical care.
Phone calls, hospital visits and consultations followed as the team worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every arrangement was in place.
Eventually, Gloria was admitted to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital ahead of her surgery.
Then came the news everyone had been praying for.
The surgery had been successful.
For the foundation, it was more than a medical breakthrough.
It was a victory of compassion over helplessness, and humanity over indifference.
Gloria’s successful treatment and safe recovery became another shining example of the impact of collective kindness and selfless service.
At the heart of the story was a foundation determined to break barriers standing between vulnerable people and access to healthcare.
Indeed, Hands of Gold Foundation had once again lived up to its mission- breaking barriers and saving lives.
Filled with gratitude and emotion after her recovery, Gloria, together with Kwame, expressed appreciation to the foundation and all who contributed to her journey.
