Nepal is facing a massive humanitarian crisis after catastrophic flash floods and landslides struck the northern mountainous border region on August 26, 2026. Triggered by a powerful glacial break and heavy monsoon rains, the disaster has left over 1,000 people dead and thousands missing, with many workers trapped in damaged hydropower project tunnels

Nepal faces flood devastation

Please stand with us as we bring the people of Nepal before the Lord.

On 26 August, flash-floods swept across the northern mountainous border region of Nepal and Tibet, leaving behind destruction and grief in its wake. Over 900 people have been confirmed dead, while the number of those missing is still climbing – reaching over the 4000 mark by Monday morning.

As a ministry, we are devastated by the tragic flash floods that have killed hundreds of people in Nepal,” shares Open Doors partner Raju*. “Our local contacts have confirmed that the flood has swept away villages and destroyed several roads, along with local hydropower infrastructure. This is a major disaster that has left many families homeless and without access to basic necessities.

We are currently trying to connect with churches in the area to determine what needs they may have. Through our long-term partnerships in Nepal, we know at least 30 believers (and likely more) are dead, and many are missing as well. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is to pray. Please pray for all the victims and their families and that the Nepali government would be able to care for the people impacted by this disaster.”

Please pray for:
• The families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones, that they would receive comfort and strength in this time of calamity.
• The victims who are displaced, stranded or trapped under the debris that they will be rescued soon.
• The people who have been rescued and are being hospitalised so that they would recover well and have all the support they need.
• The rescue efforts which are currently being hampered due to continued challenges in the affected areas.
• Pray for the government authorities that they would have the wisdom and resources needed to provide the necessary aid to the victims.

Let’s rally together as a global family holding up believers, Open Doors local partners and the people of Nepal and Tibet in prayer.
